The gap nobody talks about

Every semester, thousands of students across Mumbai hit the same wall. The project is designed, the CAD file is ready, the deadline is two days away — and the college printer is either booked for three weeks, broken, or simply not capable of the finish quality the submission needs.

The idea is there. The ambition is there. What is missing is a reliable, fast, technically capable print partner who understands student deadlines, student budgets, and the difference between a model that impresses a jury and one that just about makes it through.

House of 3D was built in Mumbai, for Mumbai. We work with students from across the city — guiding them on file preparation, material choice, orientation, and finishing — so their projects arrive looking exactly the way they designed them.

"The best student projects we have seen were never limited by ideas. They were limited by access to the right manufacturing partner at the right moment."

Six Mumbai colleges we work with

These are the institutions where we are already helping students get their work made — and where the need for a serious 3D print partner is greatest.

ATLAS SkillTech University (ATLAS-ISDI) — Lower Parel

One of Mumbai's most forward-thinking design campuses, ATLAS-ISDI runs dedicated 3D printing labs, maker spaces, fashion tech zones, and digital studios as part of its standard infrastructure. Students here work across industrial design, product design, and fashion technology — with physical prototyping woven into the curriculum at every level.

Where we help: High-detail resin models for product design portfolios, multi-part assemblies for graduation projects, and production-quality pieces where campus machines cannot deliver the surface finish required.

NMIMS School of Design — Vile Parle

NMIMS School of Design has faculty whose specialisations include Additive Manufacturing, 3D Printing, Mechatronics, CAD/CAM, and Industrial Automation — making it one of the few Mumbai design schools where 3D printing is taught as a subject, not just used as a tool. Students graduate with a strong conceptual grounding in digital fabrication.

Where we help: Complex functional models that push beyond what classroom printers can achieve, large-format prototypes for thesis and competition submissions, and high-finish pieces for design portfolios.

DY Patil University — Navi Mumbai

DY Patil University runs engineering and design programs with a student body that spans mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, architecture, and product design. The scale of the institution means a constant volume of project work that requires precision fabrication.

Where we help: Mechanical and structural prototype models, biomedical device concept pieces, architectural scale models, and multi-component engineering assemblies for final year presentations and national-level competition entries.

Rizvi College of Engineering — Bandra West

Located in Bandra, Rizvi College of Engineering runs NBA-accredited B.E. programs in Mechanical, Computer, and Civil Engineering. The institution has an active Innovation Cell, a startup clinic backed by the MUIDEAS Foundation, and a culture of student competition participation. Students here regularly work on physical prototypes as part of their project and competition work.

Where we help: Prototype components for mechanical and robotics projects, demonstration models for the Innovation Cell and startup clinic, and physical proof-of-concept pieces for competition entries.

Sofia College for Women — Breach Candy

Sofia College is one of Mumbai's most respected autonomous institutions, known for rigorous academics and a strong culture of creative and scientific inquiry. Students in science, applied arts, and vocational programs increasingly work on projects that require physical prototypes — product concepts, science fair models, entrepreneurship projects, and creative installations.

Where we help: Science and engineering project models, creative installation components, product concept prototypes for entrepreneurship programs, and custom pieces for events and exhibitions.

Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture — Prabhadevi

Established in 1955 and affiliated to the University of Mumbai, Rachana Sansad is one of India's most storied architecture and design schools. Its alumni include Hafeez Contractor, Sanjay Puri, and Shimul Jhaveri-Kadri. The B.Arch program runs five years and produces students whose thesis and studio juries demand exceptional physical model work.

Where we help: Precision architectural scale models, topographic and site models, structural detail and facade studies, and intricate thesis jury pieces where 3D printing delivers the accuracy and complexity that hand model-making cannot match at submission deadlines.

What we do for students — specifically

Working with students is not the same as working with a corporate client. The deadlines are tighter. The budgets are real constraints. And the stakes — a jury, a competition entry, a portfolio piece — are often just as significant.

File check before anything prints. Most failed prints come from files with issues not visible in CAD — wall thicknesses too thin, geometry that cannot support itself, tolerances that fail physically. We look at the file before it goes to the machine.

Honest material guidance. FDM or resin? Colour, finish, hardness? These choices change cost, appearance, and structural behaviour significantly. We help students make the right call for their specific project.

Real turnaround times. If your deadline is 48 hours away, we tell you whether that is achievable before you place the order. Not after.

Finishing support. We guide students through sanding, priming, painting, and assembly so the physical object does justice to the work behind it.

"A student once walked in with an architecture model that needed 47 separate printed components. We made every one. It won a national competition."
